GUWAHATI: Dr. Arnab Das, Founder and Director of Maritime Research Centre, presented a power point presentation on "Digital Transformation for the Enhancement of Livelihood for Communities in the Brahmaputra Basin" before the State Innovation and Transformation Aayog (SITA) Vice-Chairman Ramen Deka and Co-Vice-Chairman Dhruba Prasad Baishya here today. Responding to the presentation and taking into account the endangerment of river Dolphins, SITA Vice-Chairman Ramen Deka said if the possibility of collaborating with the Maritime Research Centre is feasible, he would backup for riverbed survey and dredging.
The PowerPoint presentation explains the large population dwelling in the Brahmaputra river basin, as the Riverine population remains vulnerable as the tropical waters offer significant challenges and, at the same time, opportunities to bring about changes. It can carry out community livelihood mapping such as Habitat Mapping, Species Mapping, Resource Mapping, Vulnerability Assessment, MSP-based Livelihood Mapping, Climate Change Risk assessment, and resilience, and would be able to provide many livelihood opportunities.
At the end of the presentation, Vice-Chairman Ramen Deka spoke about the endangered Dolphins of the Brahmaputra, which he said are all man-made problems as the state does not have a proper water management system. If the possibility of collaborating with the Maritime Research Centre is feasible, he would provide backup for riverbed survey and dredging, which are much needed, the Vice-Chairman said.
