GUWAHATI: Noted dramatist and director Bhaben Bora has been named for the Sonit Konwar Gajen Baruah Award, 2019.
The award was instituted by the State Government in 2017. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is going to give away the award at a function to be organized by the Department of Cultural Affairs under the aegis of the Sonitpur district administration at Jamugurihat on August 16, 2019. The award carries Rs 2 lakh in cash, a citation and an angabastra. Born in 1932, Bhaben Bora came to light by taking part in one-act plays in 1950s. By 1960s, he was the main actor and director of Sanjeevani Natya Samaj and Bapuji Bhawan Natya Samaj. After that he was also associated with Panchajanya and Bishnu-Jyoti Bramyamaan Natya Gosthi. He has been dedicating himself for the spread of Bare Shaharia Bhaona. He also has a collection of essays, ‘Monon’, to his credit.
