GUWAHATI: Employees of the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra on Friday staged a day-long strike in protest against the non-fulfillment of their various long-standing demands. The Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra Employees' Association who has been fighting for the rights of the employees has been seeking job regularization of all temporary staff, promotion of present employees and other benefits.

Leading the strike, president of the Association Nilakanta Rohang said that most of the tasks of the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra that was established in 1998 are dependent on the temporary staff.

He said that it was a mystery that even after serving for 10-15 years the temporary staff are yet to be made permanent in the organization. Rohang further mentioned that the state government had constituted a secretary level assessment committee in 2016 to find a solution to the issues but most of the recommendations of the committee were not implemented.

Meanwhile, the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra Employees' Association had put forward a 5-point charter of demand seeking its early implementation. They are demanding that the the system of gratuity and LIC pension of all employees should be provided from the date of appointment like the previous employees as per the 2018 assessment report.

Moreover the remaining temporary employees should be made permanent and paid on a pay-scale basis and all benefits should be paid from the date of the assessment report. Other demands include awarding of technical grade to employees who have been working form before in technical branch, promotion of eligible employees without any delay with all benefits and regularization of the four daily wagers who were selected through advertisement and interviews.
