GUWAHATI: Remembering the State's cultural icon and freedom fighterJyoti Prasad Agarwal on the occasion of Silpi Divas on Monday, state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Bhabesh Kalita has appreciated the State Government for presenting various awards, honours and pensions to eminent artistes at the behest of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The 'Silpi Award' for 2022 has been jointly bestowed upon Dr Aparna Buzarbaruah and Pulak Banerjee. The cultural awards for 2021, which were not given away due to the COVID-19 situation, were also presented on Monday.

Kalita has expressed confidence that this token of recognition of the artistes' outstanding contribution will boost their morale to do something more in

their respective fields. He said that the citizens, including the friendly Government and the literature-loving Assamese society, will always take care of the indigent families of the artistes.

The BJP will also always stand by their side when needed, Kalita said.
