GUWAHATI: At its executive meeting held in Guwahati on Saturday, the All Assam Government Undertaking Public Sector Employees’ Union (AAGUPSEU) has raised the demand for pay parity with other employees of the Assam Government.

Union president Bharat Kumar Bhuyan said at the meeting that barring 22 of the 39 public sector undertakings (PSUs) in the State the rest have been ailing and struggling for their survival. He raised the demand for their payment in accordance with the recommendations of the Assam Pay Commission, without any condition, as is the case with other State government employees. “The State government should make budgetary allocations for the payment of employees of State PSUs,” he said.

On the instability of most of the State PSUs, Bhuyan said: “Managing Directors (MDs) of PSUs and boards should be permanent and efficient ones. Frequent transfer of MDs has much to do in the survival of PSUs.”

On pension of PSU employees, the meeting made it clear that the State Government needs to do something tangible so as to ensure pension for PSU workers like other State government employees. At present PSU employees get a meagre pension from their provident fund deposits. The meeting appealed to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to extend Rs 10 crore in one go for the revival of the ailing PSUs in the State. Meanwhile, AAGUPSEU general secretary Nilam Hazarika said that a team of the union is going to meet the Chief Minister soon to raise their demands.
