State Teachers’ body alleges Sarva Siksha Abhijan Mission for mental harassment

GUWAHATI: The Asom Rajyik Prathmik Shikshak Sanmilani (ARPSS), on Saturday, alleged the Sarva Siksha Abhijan Mission (SSAM) of mentally harassing the teachers’ community of the State.

In a release, ARPSS secretary general Ratul Chandra Baishya stated, “The SSAM is passing new orders to the teachers’ everyday for which they are being harassed. The schools have been closed since March 15. Firstly, the SSAM passed five orders regarding the mid-day meal rice. It instructed the teachers to visit the students door-to-door to distribute rice amidst the lockdown. For this many teachers had to face the police’s baton.”

Further, Baishya appealed the teachers’ to exit from the Sarva Siksha Abhijan Mission Whatsapp groups. He said that from April 6 to 17, the SSAM had given seven different directions to the teachers via their Whatsapp group. “The ARPSS had already launched a programme named “Monor Khobor Lou Ahok” but the SSAM’s direction to take classes via Whatsapp is not possible. The SSAM will be responsible if the teachers’ community becomes agitated because of the continuous harassment,” said the Secretary General.

In this regard, the ARPSS submitted a memorandum to the Education Commissioner on Saturday.

The memorandum seeks the Education Commissioner’s intervention over the directions given by the SSAM to the teachers’ community. Some of the directions include taking classes over Whatsapp and considering the teacher’s diary as an attendance register.

The ARPSS also suggested measures to the Education Commissioner regarding the losses of students due to the lockdown. The body suggested that the summer vacations of the schools should be cancelled. Schools should not be used as relief camps during floods and the teachers’ should be exempted from Census duties.
