GUWAHATI: The All Assam Government NPS Employees’ Association has announced that they will observe a two-day non-cooperation on August 22 and August 23, 2023 to protest against the alleged negligence shown by the Government of Assam towards their demand for restoration of the Old Pension System (OPS).

The decision was taken at a joint forum of teachers, employees and workers’ associations and unions of Assam organized by the All Assam Government NPS Employees’ Association, in association with the All Assam Information and Public Relations Employees’ Association.

President Achyutananda Hazarika said, “India is a welfare socialist republic. The Republic of India seems to have slipped from its original goal. The government claims to be public welfare, reform-oriented and developmental but this has not been proven in the case of the public servants. The state government employees are worried about their financial future after retirement. If we are expected to do 100% work with efficiency, our demands must be given proper weight. The working class of Assam has been forced to take to the streets in a democratic manner to ensure their future security interests. A joint meeting of more than 55 teachers, employees and workers’ associations/unions has decided to intensify the demonstration to demand restoration of OPS.”
