GUWAHATI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government has betrayed the SC community by depriving them of their dues, said the Anusuchit Jati Yuba Chatra Parishad, Asom (AJYCPA) on Wednesday. The body's president Rubul Das said that the BJP government has not done anything for the welfare of the 40 lakh people of the SC communities. "We have been staging protests from the financial year 2014-15 demanding the government to release the scholarship funds for SC students. Due to these protests, on October 22, 2019 the Directorate of Welfare Scheduled Castes Assam announced to release the funds with a written assurance. According to the announcement, the work for the release of scholarship funds was started in the last financial year," said Das.

The AJYCPA alleged that 90 students from 23 education institutions didn't receive the funds as their applications for the scholarship were not renewed. It added that 670 students of 263 education institutes have not received the scholarships due to the non-verification of applications by the respective institutions.

The body demanded that the officials who are responsible for this should be punished.
