GUWAHATI: The CPI (M) has appealed to the people of Assam to support the 'Mahajoot' (grand alliance) in the upcoming polls.
Addressing a press meet at the party office in Hedayetpur, CPI (M) secretary Deben Bhattacharya said, "We appeal to the political parties who are against the BJP, not to divide the votes. The grand alliance was formed under the leadership of the Congress so that the votes are not divided among many parties thus favouring the BJP."
Bhattacharya stressed that the saffron party made 'fake promises' in 2014.
"From petrol and diesel to essential commodities, the prices have surged during the BJP rule. Moreover, no steps have been taken by the present government to curb the financial problems faced by the people due to the COVID-19 pandemic. By hurting the sentiments of the Assamese people, the BJP has introduced the CAA. The saffron party wants to instill fear in the minds of people by saying that AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal will be the next Chief Minister of Assam," he added.
