Taxpayer outreach programme held in Guwahati city

GUWAHATI: The Income Tax Department has been celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav – the celebration and commemoration activities promoted by the Government of India to mark the occasion of 75 years of India's independence. As part of celebrations under the aegis of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, North East Region, Guwahati, organized a "North East Region Converses with MSMEs', a taxpayer outreach programme with FICCI Ladies' Organization (FLO), North East Chapter in the city recently.

Sukhveer Choudhary, Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals-Central) delivered the introductory address wherein he acknowledged and appreciated the significant role played by taxpayers in nation building. He also highlighted the potential of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in India's growth and development. The outreach programme was focussed on Transforming Women's Participation in MSMEs and business sector. The outreach programme saw active participation of women entrepreneurs and members of FICCI Flo. Acknowledging the contributions of women entrepreneur towards nation building, the outreach programme elaborated on Finances, Business and Credit schemes for business women. Meghali Das, Chairperson, FLO delivered the welcome address of the outreach programme.

A presentation on MSMEs with an overview on existing legislation and policies pertaining to it was made by Kalyan Nath, Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals), Guwahati. The topic of Financial Literacy-Rise of Women as Independent Investors and Finance, Business and Credit for women entrepreneurs was also discussed in detail by Sneha Kochar, CA, CFA and Nitika Bagaria, FCA, DISA respectively.

Priyanka Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, (Admin & Vigilance) elaborated on the theme of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao and the need to tap the reservoir of talent in womanhood.

Contribution of Women achievers in North-East India who have made stellar and exemplary to the society and nation building was also highlighted by Sukhveer Choudhary. The interactive programme also highlighted the Benefit of Taxation and how contributes to providing joy to the entire nation. Talks on Taxation Brings Joy for the Entire Nation were delivered by Bandana Deori, Deputy Director of Income Tax (Investigation) and Yashodhara Das, Deputy Director of Income Tax (Investigation). Binita Baruah, JTO, highlighted the exemplary performance of lady officers of the Income Tax Department, North East Region.

The programme saw active participation from taxpayers, women entrepreneurs and FICCI Flo members. Pronita Baruah, Member (Financial Literacy) FICCI FLO delivered the vote of thanks.
