GUWAHATI: On day two of Satyagraha led by All Assam Students’ Union and 30 other ethnic organizations, over thousands of people joined the agitation. Hence the protestors were again detained and kept in the temporary jail at Dighalipukhuripar. The agitators rent the air with their slogan Hoi CAA baatil korok nohole amaak greftaar korok (scrap the CAA or arrest us).
With this, the revolt against CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) seems to go a long way. This is because people from every walk of life are coming in spontaneously against the act with firm determination to scrap it. Expressing their resentment against the government’s oppressive policy the agitators said that the act will not be accepted at any cost. Thus, by following the path of Mahatma Gandhi, protest against the act will be continued in a disciplined, peaceful and democratic way.
Appealing the agitators to maintain discipline AASU adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya said, “Non-violent and disciplined protest is the strength of public. We’ll continue our protest till we reach our goal.” The AASU adviser further warned those trying to stop the voice of public and said that the anger of the public are still coming in a non- violent and disciplined manner and its better not to provoke them with oppressive policy.
Bhattacharya claimed that gunmen had visited the house of one AASU member and also done open firing in his home. “Who are they? Are they secret killers?” He asked.
AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said that Delhi must recognize the voice of protest of the people of Assam and North east. “The agitation has touched people from every walk of life. The Satradhikars of Majuli are also opposing the CAA. The altogether protest is heading towards an extensive protest.” Gogoi said.
He further said that even after creating a difficult situation the government has received nothing but failure in stopping the voice of public. Joining the Satyagraha noted actress Barsha Rani Bishaya said that Assamese has proved its strength and national sentience.
She added that cancellation of CAA is only the demands of agitators, but of entire Assam and each indigenous people.
