GUWAHATI: On the last day of the Winter Session of the State Assembly on Wednesday, three organizations staged dharna at Dispur Last Gate. They are All Assam Special Police Officer Welfare Association (AASPOWA), Sadou Asom ASHA Karmi Santha and Voters Party International, Assam.

The AASPOWA raised the demand for their (SPOs – special police officers) permanent rehabilitation and martyr status to SPOs who died in the fight against militants. The ASHA karmis raised their demand for immediate sending of the proposal for the issuance of their appointment letters to the Central government as is the case with other employees of NationalHealth Mission (NHM). They also raised the demand for remunerative salaries to them. The Voters Party International sought the reintroduction of secret ballots instead of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and other demands.
