STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: RB Rubnawar, Indian Railway Protection Force Service (IRPFS), DIG RPF Maligaon; Dr Rajamarathandan, Superintendent of Railway Police (SRP) Pandu; and Migom Doley, Divisional Security Commisioner, Lumding division, conducted a joint inspection at Guwahati station on Tuesday to observe the security perspectives.

According to their observations, there shall be only one entry and one exit gate from the front side of the station. The other gate shall be closed. This decision has been taken to segregate the entry and exit passengers and to facilitate luggage scanning and to restrict entry of unauthorized persons at the station.

The officials recommended installation of CCTV cameras at all waiting halls; and establishing some Child Line camping units at other important stations so that more missing or run-away children can be rescued. They visited the station area near the RPF office where unloading of consignments from the leased SLR is done on a daily basis. They advised that the entry of cars, even of any VIP, should not be allowed at the open space near the RPF office as it is unsafe and a violation of rules. They also visited the ticket counter to take stock of the crowd management at the time of issuing tickets; the railway enquiry cell to take stock of the enquiry of passengers; the parcel office and enquired about the system of receiving and despatching of consignment. The officials recommended to conduct random checking by RPF and GRP in coordination with parcel staff to detect irregularities.

They visited the Government Railway Police (GRP) office and VIP parking and observed that the office of the GRP was not sufficient as there was no female lock-up and residential barracks of GRP staff. They recommended necessary action by SRP in upgrading the GRP office.

They also checked the area of entry point on the Paltan Bazar side and found that there was no CCTV camera at the entry point, which is a matter of concern, stated a press release.
