Transport Department of Assam fines driver on the roads of Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The transport department of Assam has imposed a fine on the owner of a vehicle that was caught on camera while driving recklessly on the roads of Guwahati.

The incident reportedly took place in the Gorchuk region of the city, wherein a Honda WR-V vehicle bearing registration AS-01-DR-1000 was seen driving recklessly. Taking notice of the video, the transport department of Assam imposed a fine of Rs 2000 under Section 179 (1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, for disobedience of the orders from authorities and Rs 5000 under Section 184 of the same act for dangerous driving.

The department mentioned that the owner of the vehicle, Sona Dutta, and the driver, Abhijit Das, are both to blame for the incident and imposed a combined fine of Rs 7,000. They were ordered to be present for the DTO on May 18, which they did and paid the fine amount.
