Transport Minister Parimal Suklabaidya presides over road safety council meet

 GUWAHATI: The Transport, Excise, and Fisheries Minister Parimal Suklabaidya chaired the Assam State Road Safety Council Meeting on Wednesday at Assam Water Centre, Guwahati, in the presence of DIG (Admin) Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Secretary to Assam Transport Department Adil Khan, Commissioner of Assam Transport Department Dr. Robin Kumar,other transport department officials, officials from NHAI, NH, NHIDCL, PWD, Excise, Education, Assam Police, and Health.

In line with the review meeting taken by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma with the respective DCs and DTOs to prevent the rising number of road accidents across Assam, the Transport Minister urged all line departments to sincerely adopt all road safety measures, including effective installation of signage, identification of black points and subsequent steps, and continuous monitoring of the same to remove such black spots. The Minister directed the Road Safety Council and the Secretary of the Assam Transport Department to ensure that the District Road Safety Committee meeting of all respective districts be held within the next 15 days. In view of the rising accidents and related deaths due to ‘Drink & Drive’ across the state, the Transport Minister, who also holds the portfolio of Excise, directed the department officials to ensure strict vigilance over the shops having late-night liquor licences.

The Minister also highlighted the Chief Minister’s directions for dealing with such cases in a rigorous manner and ensuring strict lawful actions for the drivers found to be drunk on the road, stated a press release.
