GUWAHATI: Amidst reports of probable oxygen scarcity in Assam, the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Saturday installed two cryogenic oxygen tanks each with a total capacity of 40,000 litres.
Talking to newsmen GMCH Superintendent Dr Abhijit Sharma said that 10 more ICU beds have been added for COVID patients. "This would go a long way in addressing the rising oxygen needs of the hospital. With the increase in COVID cases, hospitals are making every possible arrangement to ensure that they do not run dry of oxygen. The need for oxygen has risen manifold as even non-COVID patients need oxygen. The two cryogenic oxygen tanks would help GMCH maintain assured, uninterrupted oxygen supply for at least 10 days and then it would have to be refilled," Dr Sharma said.
