Two 'fake' MBBS doctors arrested in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Personnel of the Crime Branch of City police arrested two persons impersonating as MBBS doctors from a prominent private hospital here on Thursday.

The duo has been identified as Hrishikesh Bhuyan of Basistha Chariali here and Manoranjan Roy of Chamaria in Boko.

Police sources informed that the two persons had fake MBBS degree certificates of Srimanta Sankardev University of Health Sciences in Bhangagarh here. The case came to light after the Registrar (in charge) of the varsity, Sujit Bordhan filed an FIR at the Bhangagarh Police Station. A case (201/2021 u/s 420/468/471 IPC) was registered in this regard. The case was subsequently transferred to the Crime Branch of Guwahati Police. An investigation is on.

According to the FIR, though the two arrested persons are Homoeopathic practitioners they were carrying out allopathic (medicine) practices in a few private hospitals of Guwahati by submitting their fake MBBS degree certificates.
