LAKHIMPUR: An executive meeting of the United Bodo People's Organisation (UBPO) was held on Tuesday at the Socio Literary Cultural Complex, located at Ahomgaon. The meeting was chaired by Manuranjan Basumatary, the central committee president of the UBPO.

While explaining the objective, general secretary Pitambar Brahma said that the meeting was convened in order to discuss in details over the 9th annual conference of the UBPO, scheduled to be held with three-day long colourful programmes from January 5 to January 7, 2023 at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Panjabari in Guwahati. The meeting was attended by the representatives of all the district committees of the UBPO.

Through a press release, president Monuranjan Basumatary, general secretary Pitambar Brahma informed that more than 3,000 delegates would participate in the conference in addition to the observers and the cultural troupes. Moreover, an exhibition-cum-trade fair, literary competitions and sports events will also be organised during the event. As a memento, a souvenir titled as "Guwahati Kharimini" along with the mouthpiece "Khousethini Fungkha" will also be published in the conference. All the Bodo frontal organisations are expected to participate in the programmes. Representatives from West Bengal, Tripura, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and from neighbouring countries like Bangladesh and Nepal are also expected to participate in the event. Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has consented to attend the conference as chief guest of the open session to be held on January 7. Moreover, Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary, ministers Pijush Hajarika, Jayanta Malla Baruah, UG Brahma, Chief Executive Member of BTR Pramod Boro and many other dignitaries will also attend the conference as per the scheduled programmes.

Through the same press release, the entire UBPO family has welcomed the home-coming of BRA(U) and UDLFBV, the two revolutionary army of the Bru (Reang) community, who fought for the creation of separate political arrangement under the State Act of Assam to uplift, preserve and promote their culture, identity, tradition and language and for socio economical development.
