GUWAHATI: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday visited the respective residences of world-renowned artist Neel Pawan Baruah and popular actor Nipon Goswami to pay respects and homage to the departed souls. The Union Minister first went to the Beltola residence of Neel Pawan Baruah and offered floral tributes while extending condolences to the bereaved family, informed a press release.

Sonowal also visited the residence of Nipon Goswami and offered tributes to the famous actor of Assamese cinema and extended condolences to the family.

Sonowal said, "Assam mourns the irreparable loss of her beloved sons. The greatness of Neel Pawan Baruah is not just for impeccable artwork that he produced, but also because of the humility with which he lived his life among people. He was a people's man as he won the hearts and minds with his simple smile. The tale of Neel Pawan Baruah and Dipali Borthakur is a source of inspiration for all of us to know that all we need is love. His rich body of work is not only a matter of great pride for the people but it will continue to stir imagination of the young for many generations to come."

Sonowal further said, "Nipon da was the ultimate polestar of Assamese cinema. We have all grown up watching Nipon da enact some memorable performances on the silver screen. I was blessed to meet him on many occasions, moments which I shall cherish forever. He used to call me Sarba, which evoked the love of an elder brother. It must be mentioned that his professionalism and discipline are something that the young generation can learn a lot from. The beautiful moments with Nipon da and his huge artistic canvas will live forever."
