GUWAHATI: Yashwant Sinha, the UPA candidate for the ensuing presidential election, arrived in Guwahati this afternoon to campaign for votes.
Sinha was received at the LGBI airport here by Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Kumar Borah, Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia and other MLAs and senior leaders of the Congress party. Four MLAs of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) were also present at the airport.
Sinha later attended a meeting organized by the APCC at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra here. Apart from Congress MPs and MLAs, the meeting was also attended by MP Ajit Bhuyan and MLAs Akhil Gogoi and Manoranjan Talukdar.
Earlier, separate teams of the AIUDF and the State unit of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) also met Sinha.
Sinha told mediapersons after the meeting organized by the APCC that the representatives of the Congress, AIUDF, TMC and the Left parties have assured him of their support in the election.
