BJP's manifesto for municipal board polls unveiled

GUWAHATI: Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday released the State BJP's manifesto for the ensuing municipality board elections in the State and announced that the towns of the State would be refurbished and modernized through the Amrut scheme.

The BJP's first commitment is development of infrastructure in urban areas. This will include construction of modern 1,000-seater auditoriums in large towns and modern, scientific 500-seater auditoriums in smaller towns. There will be plazas and vending zones in each town.

The Government will also ensure modernization, expansion and reconstruction of all Bihutolis (Bihu function venues) in various towns.

The Government will also establish hostels for working women in urban areas along with rest rooms-cum-exclusive toilets in important places of the towns. Besides, clock towers will be erected in each municipal area.

All markets in urban areas, including those vending vegetables, meat-fish etc., will be modernized. Load-bearing slabs will be placed on all drains in urban areas and all cremation grounds will also be modernized.

The BJP Government will also help in preserving and reconstruction of naamghars and mandirs of historical importance.

Further, the manifesto has promised non-stop supply of water to households in municipal areas through the Amrut 2.00 scheme. Moreover, a mobile drinking water supply scheme will be undertaken in these areas for social functions such as marriages etc.

The manifesto also pledged to accord priority to waste material collection, transportation, management, separation and disposal.

The document also emphasizes on adequate illumination of urban streets at night, with all street lights to be converted to LED ones.

CCTV cameras will be also installed in important urban locations.

Traffic management and parking systems will be modernized in all municipal areas, along with introduction of electric vehicles.

Parks, playgrounds and stadiums will be set up as per need in urban areas.

A scheme will be taken up to prevent artificial floods.

A digital platform will be set up so that residents of municipal areas can summon plumbers, electricians, drivers etc., from home via digital applications.

Urban health clinics will be improved and veterinary clinics will also be set up.

Steps will be taken to ensure that each household can easily get its individual house number.

Apart from the Chief Minister, the manifesto release programme at the Atal Behari Vajpayee Bhawan here was also attended by State BJP president Bhabesh Kalita and other party leaders.
