GUWAHATI: The Information Technology (IT) cell of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has lodged an FIR against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for alleged violation of the electoral code of conduct during the 'silence period' on the eve of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) election, which was held Friday.

The 'silence period' usually begins 48 hours before the voting day and ends after polling ends.

Palash Lahan, incumbent convenor of the State BJP's social media cell, lodged an FIR at the Dispur Police Station, alleging that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has violated the election rules/guidelines during the 'silence period' and has been continuing with their online election campaign during the last 48 hours before polling.

The BJP IT cell also appended the Facebook link of AAP with the Dispur police along with in the FIR.

It may be mentioned that the Guwahati Municipal election is being held after a nine-year gap, with EVMs being used for the first time in all 60 wards under the GMC.
