GUWAHATI: State Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika reviewed the flood situation of the State via a video conference on Thursday.

In presence of the Additional Chief Secretary of the State, S Abbasi and the Chief Engineer of Water Resources department, the Minister took stock of the flood situation across the districts from the divisional engineers and asked them to be alert round the clock to mitigate the impact of floods. The Minister also asked the engineers to get ready for any work to strengthen the river embankments during the flood time, even if the embankments are not made by the Water Resources Department, stated an official communique.

Further, Hazarika also ordered the top officials of the department to ensure timely release of emergency fund and other resources, including emergency materials, for the divisions to handle the flood situation smoothly.

Immediately after the video conference, the Minister went to Tamulpur and along with MLA Jalen Daimary and departmental officials, visited erosion-hit areas of Dalangpaar and Barkhopa. After visiting the erosion-hit areas of river Matanga, the Minister told mediapersons that from tomorrow onwards, the Water Resources Department would start temporary anti-erosion measures in the area. The Minister also said that as desired by the Chief Minister, the Water Resources Department had already released Rs 121 crore during the last year to the BTAD area.
