Water-logging hits Guwahati city

GUWAHATI: Incessant rains lashed Guwahati since last night, inundating many areas in the metropolitan city. In many areas in the city, including GS Road, Hatigaon, Chandmari, RG Baruah Road etc., people and vehicles had to wade through knee-deep water.

Students and office-goers had difficult times with roads, lanes and by-lanes remaining underwater in many areas in Guwahati. The waterlogging situation in Guwahati exposed the poor drainage system in the city.

Waterlogging in Guwahati has been a long-pending problem. Despite repeated assurances, every government failed to address this problem. The drainage and sewerage system in Guwahati is not of the kind befitting a smart city.
