Guwahati:
The Assam government has revealed the priority of distribution of the COVID-19
vaccine when it is available for public use.
It is reiterated that there is no public vaccine "currently", but a list is being prepared by the Assam government of those who will receive the vaccine first, once it will be rolled out to the public.
According to State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, around 70 lakh people will be the early recipients of the vaccine in Assam.
Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, " there is no COVID-19 vaccine as of now. 5 vaccines are being tested at its 2nd or 3rd levels in the country and we are preparing to vaccinate around 70 lakh people in the state in the first, go."
The minister stated in the press conference that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a video call conference with all the chief ministers of the states and listed the four priority categories to the recipients. Accordingly, the list is being prepared, which will be around 70 lakhs in the state of Assam.
According to a highly ranked source in the state's health department, there are four categories: first are health workers, second are the frontline workers including police and the paramilitary. In the third category those who are more than 50 years of age will come and those who are less than 50 years but are with having multiple medical conditions at the same time such as a disease like diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, etc.
This has been considered as a layer by layer approach amounting to 70 lakh people approximately out of the 3.2 crore population of the state, that will constitute the primary candidates for the vaccine.
