GUWAHATI: A joint team of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested on Thursday the accused who murdered a female passenger identified as Pompy Haloi in the disabled compartment of the Gaya-Kamakhya passenger train. Her body was in the train's bathroom on August 16 at Kamakhya Railway Station. The accused is identified as Dipak Das (48), hailing from Cooch Behar. According to sources, she hailed from Nalbari and was heading home on the Gaya-Kamakhya train from a pilgrimage to Baba Dham.
According to RPF sources, the team laid a surprise trap in and around the Kamakhya Railway Station, and the team was able to arrest the accused on the back side of the Kamakhya Railway Station.
According to RPF sources, the accused murdered her at a time when the train was running between Kamakhya and Azara and no one was in the coach apart from the duo. He took the opportunity and murdered her by wrapping her dupatta around her neck. And then he kept the body in the train's bathroom. The main reason for the murder was theft. After murdering her, the accused took her earrings, one gold ring, a mobile phone, and Rs 500. According to sources, the accused used to work in a hotel in Adabari three years ago, then later went back to Cooch Behar and carried out his thievery in trains.
