GUWAHATI: The Joint Action Committee of Recognised Unions (JACRU) Cachar and Nagaon Paper Mills, Assam has questioned Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma whether he will save the HPC (Hindustan Paper Corporation) Mills as its auction price has now been reduced.

"It is a big question whether our CM will take over the industries or the price will further be reduced to sale the assets at a throwaway price which may protect the interest of the cronies?" the stated.

The JACRU stressed that it is against the national interest to import papers from China, Indonesia, Bangladesh by 'destroying' our industries.

"The government should respect its policy related to Atmanirvar Bharat and should discontinue importing papers from China and other countries at the cost of destruction of own National interest.

Further, the JACRU appealed to the CM to release the salaries and statutory dues of workers on priority as per his commitment to protect the lives of the paper mill workers.

"Saving lives of citizens who are also workers is not only responsibility but the primary duty of the government. Thus, the government cannot create such a distressing situation by withholding salaries of the workers," the JACRU stated. It urged the CM to release the legal dues of workers immediately to set an example of efficient governance.
