GUWAHATI, Oct 23: Kamrup(M) DC M Angamuthu has spelt out do’s and don’ts for the local Chath Puja committee so as to ensure smooth observance of the puja slated for October 26.
The DC had a meeting with Chhath Puja committees at Circuit House in the city on Monday. The meeting discussed issues like security, lighting, vehicular communication, drinking water, arrangement for lavatory, cultural programmes etc., at Kasomari Ghat, Chandrapur Ghat, Pandu Ghat, Betkuchi, Bashistha, Noonmati etc., in the city. He asked the puja committees to complete their pujas by 6.30-7 pm. He also asked to them adopt all precautiory measures so as to avoid accidents.
The DC said that if the cultural programmes were held at Soram HS School Playground, instead of holding them in river banks, the district administration was ready to extend help.  On the day of the puja, the DC prohibited sailing of all private boats in the river from 1 pm, and asked APDCL to ensure uninterrupted supply of power to the venues. He also asked the puja committees to clean the river banks after the puja.
Additiol Guwahati Police Commissioner Diganta Bora asked the puja committees to seek permission for gates they were going to erect and not to burst crackers producing loud sound. He said that a stretch of the MG Road would remain closed for vehicular traffic on that day.
Officials from PWD, Health, APDCL, GMC, SDRF, NDRF, circle officers and others were present at the meeting.
