Illegal truck parking: NH 37 at Sopur turning into death trap

DIMORIA, Sept 25: Illegal truck parking alongside NH 37 at the adjoining areas of Sopur has turned vicinity into a deathtrap for several commuters.

Several accidents had been reported in the area in the last few months where few people lost their lives.

Illegal truck parking on both sides of the tiol Highway is the prime reason of these accidents. The police had not taken any action against the illegal parking of trucks inspite of repeated requests from the local people.

The area between Patarkuchi and Lalmati in Sopur has virtually turned into a truck bay with several trucks lined up on both sides of the highway. Several dhabas and line hotels have sprung up besides the roadside which attributes to parking of the trucks.

Several accidents in the last couple of months particularly during night were reported where many people lost their lives.

The East Kamrup District administration has also not taken any action against the illegal parking so far.

Local people had alleged that due to the dhabas and line hotels, immoral activities are on the rise in the region.
