NE-IAS to award civil service toppers from region

GUWAHATI, Feb 16: The Northeast-IAS has initiated ‘Mission-100’ with an aim to produce 100 civil servants in five years from the Northeast. As part of this mission, Northeast IAS is conducting an action-led and result-based training in Guwahati, attracting students from the entire region. An award of Rs. 3 lakh will be given to top three candidates from the region in the UPSC fil.

“When it comes to civil services, the Northeast cuts a sorry figure. In 2015, there were only 13 students who cleared the allied services; and in 2016, the result was less than 0.67% of the total results, whereas in Delhi and Rajasthan the number of successful candidates was more than 100 candidates. This is a consistent result of Delhi, Harya, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan for very simple reason - that is owing to having a well-structured training institutions for civil service in these states,” Keshav C Das, founder of the North East Institute of Advanced Studies (Northeast-IAS), said.

Highlighting its success story, newly appointed Director- Academics Sankar Ray said: “A hub for progressive learning equipped with state-of-the-art methodology along with student-centric facilities and ambience, more than 200 students from Northeast IAS have cleared APSC combined competitive prelimiry examition in 2017 and 45 aspirants cleared IAS mains. This result sets the benchmark for the standard of education which the organization is providing. The institute is sponsoring students with 100 per cent scholarship with a commitment to promote administrative leadership in the northeastern region.

While fulfilling the aspirations of youth and growing demand from the educatiolist, Mission-100 has expanded its reach to the state of Odisha. Utkal Institute of Advanced Studies (Utkal-IAS) has been founded with the vision to enrich and take forward the noble work inked by Northeast-IAS. For the academic year 2018-2019, Northeast-IAS announced 100 per cent fellowship based courses and invited applications from the youth of Assam and Northeast region. This 10-month course will be fully funded by the promoting company of the Northeast-IAS, Ekoenergy and Climate Pvt. Ltd.

While speaking on the occasion, Meeshki B Saikia, Assistant Director General of the Institute, highlighted the fact that ‘the talent pool of Northeast India needs to be motivated and nurtured to join in the prestigious civil services of Government of India’. She also said that ‘the overall socio-economic development of Northeast India is going to be possible only with constructive and dedicated service to the tion by the northeastern youth’’.

A book, ‘Rural Development in Assam’, was also released in the event. It is authored by Dr. Chandan Thakuria. While releasing the book, founder-Director of Northeast-IAS, Keshav C Das illumited that the Northeast India has always been considered as a land of opportunities but it is equally regarded as a region afflicted with problems. What are those issues that come in the way of development in the Northeast and what possible solution could be brought to end these problems are discussed in this book, he said.
