Railway's helpline addressing to passengers' needs

GUWAHATI, April 27: Indian Railway’s toll free security helpline number 182 is actively helping travelling passenger whenever they are in need of help. This toll free security helpline number is active 24 x 7 throughout Indian Railway for rendering any type of security related help to train passenger. This has been stated in an NFR press communiqué.

During the period from January to March, 2018 about 50 complaints were received through this helpline number by NF Railway. Of these 31 complaints were related to theft of mobile, purse, bag etc. In 26 of the 31 cases, passengers were rendered immediate help to lodge FIR with Government Railway Police. While assistance were provided in 19 other cases to passengers, which includes case like disturbance caused by eunuch, intoxicated passengers, nuisance by co-passenger, harassment of lady passenger, occupation of seats by other passenger, blocking of railway track etc. There are also cases of providing emergency medical help, rescuing of kidnapped minor boy, recovery of left behind luggage and the like.

It may be mentioned here that within NF Railway any call made to this toll free number is received by the concerned Divisional Security Control within whose jurisdiction the area falls. Immediate assistance is provided by informing the nearest available Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel to attend at the location. One can even lodge FIR on any incident by using this helpline number at ease, the communiqué added.
