New Delhi: The Omicron variant is causing havoc in the world and now another new variant of Corona named DeltaCron has been found in Cyprus.
The genetic background of this new variant of Corona is also similar to that of the Delta variant, hence it has been named DeltaCron.
"There are currently omicron and delta co-infections and we found this strain that is a combination of these two. The discovery was named "deltacron" due to the identification of omicron-like genetic signatures within the delta genomes,'' Leondios Kostrikis, professor of biological sciences at the University of Cyprus said in an interview with Sigma TV on Friday.
Reportedly, in 25 samples of corona infected, it was found that 10 of these mutations were from Omicron. Of the 25 people from whom samples were taken, 11 were hospitalized while 14 were living in isolation at home.
According to Kostrikis, the statistical analysis shows that the relative frequency of the combined infection is higher among patients hospitalized due to Covid-19 as compared to non-hospitalized patients.
He further said that at present we are doing research on it and later it will be seen how dangerous the new variant is.
Kostrikis has sent the 25 samples for genome sequencing of the new variant to GISAID, the international organization that tracks the virus.
A few days earlier, scientists had detected another variant of corona named IHU variant in France.
The variant IHU has changed its form 46 times. It is believed that it may be more vaccine-resistant and infectious than the original COVID virus.
As per the reports, the variant IHU has been discovered in France. In Marseille (Variant IHU in Marseille) of France, 12 cases of the new variant have been reported. These cases have been seen in those people, who had returned from the African country of Cameroon.
