KABUL: The Taliban, which had captured Afghanistan last month, has called China to be its "most important partner" and said it look forward for help from that country to rebuild Afghanistan.
The statement by the Taliban comes at a time when the war-hit nation (Afghanistan), in the wake of violence and turmoil is facing widespread hunger and may suffer an economic collapse if measures to normalise the situation are not taken soon. The Taliban said it expects support from China's capital Beijing so that it can bring Afghanistan back to its previous shape and form and utilise its rich copper deposits in order to avoid troubles that might crop up in the country in the coming days.
According to a news agency's report, Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid has expressed their support to China's One Belt, One Road Initiative which seeks to connect China with Europe, Africa and Asia via a network of roads, railways, ports and industrial parks.
As per a global news channel, Mujahid told a newspaper that China is their "most important partner" and that the country has expressed its willingness to invest to help them (Taliban). The spokesperson also said it considers Russia another important partner and looks forward to maintaining good relations with it. With Afghanistan shackled in problems like widespread hunger and economic collapse possibilities, the Taliban has hinted about a formal government structure soon.
It may be mentioned that the Taliban forces have claimed on Friday that they have taken control of the entire Afghanistan, including the Panjshir Valley.
