New Delhi: China's People Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) is being mocked on social media after a 'propaganda video' appears to have used Hollywood movie clips while depicting an attack on a target resembling a United States Air Force base.
The video is titled "The God of War H-6K Goes on the Attack!", and was released over the weekend by the PLAAF on Weibo, the Chinese website resembling Twitter. In the 2-minute, 15-second video that highlights the force's H-6K aircraft, twin-engine jet bombers nicknamed "Gods of War" by the Chinese military, are shown going on the attack.
However, social media users soon pointed out that some of the clips had been lifted -- without giving any credit -- from Hollywood action blockbusters 'The Hurt Locker', 'The Rock', and 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen'
Social media commentators have pointed out that the PLAAF's propaganda is not only fictitious but likely stolen without credit.
"If you really must make this propaganda, then do not steal from other movies", a netizen commented on YouTube, while another questioned, "Some scenes actual copy from several US films, The Rock(1966), The hurt locker(2008), Transformer (2009), This is Chinese army?"
The video begins with scenes of the large bombers in what appears to be the early dawn at a desert airbase. The Chinese Air Force bombers then roar into the sky and seconds later, release a missile that zooms down to strike a target that appears to be a US Air Force base.
The target shown in the video is similar to the US' Andersen Air Force Base on Guam, a base that is assumed key target for any Chinese attack on the US in case of hostilities among the two superpowers.
