ITANAGAR: The Chinese delegates decided to skip the G20 Meeting that was held in the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. More than 100 international delegates attended the meeting on Saturday. The delegates also visited the state legislative assembly as a part of the visit.
China does not accept Arunachal Pradesh being a sovereign part of India and claims it to be a part of the Tibet region, which is controlled by China. “There is no delegation from China. Around 100 delegates, representing the G20 countries, besides Indian delegates, arrived in the capital city on Saturday for a two-day programme,” mentioned an official from the state.
China has been playing a very supportive role in India’s presidency in the G20 group. And Beijing has not raised any official protest regarding the hosting of the meeting in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. The foreign minister of China, Qin Gang, had also visited India earlier this month to take part in the foreign ministers meeting as a part of the G20 meetings.
The main theme of the G20 Meet in Itanagar was hosted by the state science and technology department and was titled ‘Research, innovation initiative, gathering’. It was a part of the 200 meetings scheduled to be hosted in over fifty major cities across the length and breadth of the country.
After India assumed the G20 presidency position towards the end of last year, India had announced that the meetings will be organised in different parts of the country to give everyone a view of the exotic and wide variety of landscapes and cultures of the country with the Indian ambassador the United Nations, Ruchira Kamboj mentioning what the meetings will take place in all 28 states and 8 Union Territories of the country.
According to reports, a few countries are lobbying to prevent the G20 meeting scheduled for the month of May from being hosted in Srinagar.
