Double Rainbow Appeared Over Buckingham Palace As Crowds Gather To Mourn Queen Elizabeth II

New Delhi: A double rainbow appeared over Buckingham Palace, on Thursday afternoon, as members of the public gathered outside to pay homage to the longest reigning monarch of Britain, Queen Elizabeth II, who died at the age of 96.

The rare phenomenon appeared in the sky as the clouds cleared after heavy downpours across the capital. The rainbow could be seen as a significant sign across the capital including Elizabeth Tower in Westminster and the Queen Victoria Memorial.

People outside Buckingham Palace mourned when officials carried a notice confirming the queen's death to the wrought-iron gates of the queen's London home. Hundreds soon gathered in the rain, and mourners laid dozens of colourful bouquets at the gates.

The palace announced she died at Balmoral Castle, her summer residence in Scotland, where members of the royal family had rushed to her side after her health took a turn for the worse.

A helicopter could be heard circling overhead as people waited quietly for any news on the well-being of the Queen.

"The crowd is only getting bigger so I imagine it won't be long until people begin laying flowers. Queen means so much to so many people not just here in the UK but around the globe and the world has lost a bastion of stability and dignity putting country and duty above all else." Peter Barnes, 31, a campaign director was quoted as saying by media reports.

According to reports, it is to be noted that, Charles is expected to take charge as her successor, become king and will be known as King Charles III. Charles' second wife, Camilla, will be known as the Queen Consort.
