ABU DHABI: Averting the possibility of a major air crisis, a Boeing 737-800 aircraft landed back at the Abu Dhabi airport a few minutes after take off. A fire in one of the engines of the plane was the reason for the landing.

According to the reports, flight number IX 348 had taken off from the Abu Dhabi airport as scheduled. The flight has a total of 184 passengers aboard when the fire was detected in one of the engines. The incident happened soon after the plane left the tarmac and forced the pilots to land the aircraft back at the Abu Dhabi Airport.

A report of the incident came from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of India during the first half of Friday. The plane was bound for Kozhikode airport in Kerala when this incident took place. "Today an Air India Express B737-800 aircraft VT-AYC operating flight IX 348 (Abu Dhabi-Calicut) was involved in Airturnback due to the No. 1 engine flameout at 1,000 ft during the climb," mentioned the statement while adding that it had to turn back to the same airport.

Air India Express has also released a statement mentioning that all passengers aboard the plane are safe as it managed to land safely. "Soon after taking off and climbing to 1,000 feet, the pilot detected a flame in one of the engines and decided to go back to Abu Dhabi airport," mentioned the statement.

Flameouts or fires in one of the engines of a multi-engine aircraft are usually not the worst risks for the plane as these models are built to continue flying with the other engines functioning properly while an attempt is made to recover functionality. The procedure usually involves restarting the engine after cutting off the fuel supply and letting the flame die out.
