New Delhi: Incumbent French President, Emmanuel Macron is facing a tough fight from the rival candidate Marine Le Pen in the ongoing elections for President in the country.

However, some exit polls clearly show the return of the Macron. But still, the question remains the same who will be the next President of France?

Tough Stands Against Radicalism

It is a known fact that France is known for its strict policies against radicalism and following this, the hijab controversy has also emerged as a big issue in this election. Macron himself is taking a tough stand against Muslim fundamentalism around the world. So, it wouldn't be wrong to mention that fundamentalism has emerged as a big issue in the ongoing election.

Meanwhile, after the exit polls, it is also being said that if the votes of the leftist candidate Mélenchon are reduced and if Le Pen's recent statement on hijab or Muslim fundamentalism managed to do their work, then Macron's troubles may increase.

European Union Issues

Apart from these, issues with Russia could to alter the results as Macron has strongly backed European Union Sanctions (EU) on Russia while Le Pen is worried about their impact on French living standards. In addition to this, Macron is a strong supporter of NATO and of close collaboration among the EU's 27 members.

Need To Approach Voters

Now, in a bid to win round two, both Macron and Le Pen now need to approach voters who backed the 10 presidential candidates defeated on Sunday.

If no candidate gets a 50% or more of the votes in the first round of the election, then the decision will be taken only in the second round of voting. In this phase, on April 24, only two candidates, who topped the first phase, will vote.

Marine Le Pen Working Hard

However, reports claimed that the candidate of the right-wing National Rally, Marine Le Pen, has worked hard this time and is also making aggressive rhetoric to bring back the voters who had left the party last time. She has also promised a ban on wearing the hijab if he wins the election. So, now it will be interesting to see whether 53-year-old Marine Le Pen will get the vote in the tribal area or 70-year-old Jean-Luc Mélenchon, a leftist leader.

Voters Joining Right-Wing Party

However, a large voter section of the Socialist Party has now joined the right-wing party in the name of national security and this is the reason why Marine Le Pen has made a tremendous comeback compared to last year.

Latest Exit Poll

In the latest opinion poll conducted in France, although current President Emmanuel Macron is slightly ahead of his rival, Marine Le Pen is leading very fast. In the latest opinion poll, Emmanuel Macron is leading with 54 percent of the vote, while Marine Le Pen is also projected to get 46 percent of the vote. That is, the distance between Marine Le Pen and Macron is not much.
