George Floyd's 4-Year Old Niece Shot At Home On New Year's Day

On 1 January 2022, a 4-year-old girl named Arianna Delane was shot during sudden firing in an apartment in Houston, United States. The girl survived the incident but got wounded with severe injuries.

While speaking with CBS-affiliated television station KHOU the family of the victim girl informed that Delane is the niece of George Floyd who was killed in May 2020 by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. George Floyd was murdered by police officials for his black lives matter protest.

Delane was sleeping in the room of her house when someone suddenly opened early morning before 03:00 am. At the time when bullets started flying there were another small child and four adults present in the apartment but they saved themselves from getting injured.

George Floyd's grand-niece was driven to a local hospital by her mother after realizing her daughter was hit and bleeding.

Delane was admitted to the hospital where she had undergone surgery and at present, she is undergoing further medical treatment. Doctors and police informed that she is recovering and will be discharged soon.

On Tuesday 4 January the police officials said that there is no suspect identified yet for the shooting where only a single person fired many shots. They have no idea about how many shooters were involved in the firing on New Year's Day.

A close friend of the girl's family informed that Delane had a punctured liver, punctured lung and 3 broken ribs and she had walked for the first time at the time of firing on Tuesday.

The father of Delane, Derrick Delane said that police has taken the situation lightly as they reached the spot after 07:00 am which means they arrive more than 4 hours after the brutal shooting happened in the area.

The Houston Police Chief Troy Finner initiated a detailed investigation over the shooting incident and also started internal inquiry over the emergency response after Delane was shot.

Delane's Uncle George Floyd was murdered by police in the year 2020 while launching a nationwide estimation over the misbehaviour of police towards Black people. The police named Derek Chauvin who killed George was sentenced to death about a year later and other involved are awaiting trial.

Other cops involved in the murder case were later identified as Tou Thao, Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Kueng.
