Google Celebrates 25th Anniversary with Special Doodle

GUWAHATI: The search engine giant, Google, marked its 25th anniversary on Wednesday with a commemorative doodle on its homepage.

The special doodle showcases a montage of the company's previous logos and culminates with a distinctive twist: the letters 'oo' in the word 'Google' are ingeniously replaced by '25'. Google, founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, had its origins as part of a PhD project in September 1998. Interestingly, the concept for the company was initially conceived in 1995. By 1996, Page and Brin had reportedly developed a search engine, originally named 'BackRub,' which utilized links to assess the significance of individual web pages.

Reflecting on this significant milestone, the Google Doodle blog stated, "Much has changed since 1998 — including our logo as seen in today's Doodle — but the mission has remained the same: to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful. Billions of people from all over the globe use Google to search, connect, work, play, and so much more! Thank you for evolving with us over the past 25 years. We can't wait to see where the future takes us, together."

Notably, Google's original founding date was September 4, 1998. According to reports, in 2005, the company officially adjusted its birth date to September 27 to coincide with the announcement of a record-breaking number of indexed pages by the search engine.

Recently, Google mocked Apple in a new video by comparing the iPhone to an “iPager” because it does not use the RCS (Rich Communication Services) messaging protocol and still uses the decades-old SMS/MMS protocol for messaging with Android users. According to The Verge, Google last year launched a “Get the Message” campaign to put pressure on Apple to support RCS on the iPhone, which is still ongoing today with “iPager”. “iPager isn’t real, but the problems that Apple caused by using SMS are,” said Google in the video description on YouTube.
