Imran Khan Calls For Fresh Elections As Pak Parliament Dissolved

New Delhi: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan after surviving a move to oust him as the country's prime minister on Sunday called for fresh elections.

Following Khan's advice, Pakistan President Arif-ur-Rehman Alvi has dissolved the national assembly.

"I've sent advice to the president to dissolve assemblies," Khan said in a televised address, referring to national and state legislatures. He also called on the nation to prepare for fresh elections.

"PM Imran Khan's cabinet has been dissolved. PM Khan will continue his responsibilities. A caretaker setup will be formed after the dissolution of the assemblies, initiating the process for new general elections," Pakistan's information minister said.

Earlier, Khan had alleged evidence of an "international conspiracy" to unseat him led by the US, which has denied the allegations.

Reacting over Pakistan's deputy speaker of parliament, who blocked a no-confidence motion as unconstitutional, opposition parties asserted that the cancellation of the no-confidence vote was illegal and accused Khan of throwing the country into a constitutional crisis.

However, as per reports, the opposition intends to challenge the parliament ruling in court.

While addressing the people of Pakistan, Imran Khan said, ''I congratulate every Pakistani on the decision of the speaker. The no-confidence motion was a foreign conspiracy against us. Pakistan should decide who rules them. No foreign power has the right to decide this.''

''I have written to the President to dissolve the Assembly. Elections should be held democratically. I call upon the people of Pakistan to prepare for the elections,'' he added.
