India ranked 131 in mobile internet global rankings below Pakistan: Ookla Speedtest Global Index

China is second on the index with an average mobile download speed of 113.35Mbps. Sri Lanka ranks way ahead of India at 102nd position. Pakistan and Nepal are ranked 116th and 117th positions, respectively

Despite all the push and the focus of the government on improving mobile internet speed and connectivity, the Ookla's Speedtest Global Index has ranked India 131st for mobile internet speed and 70th on the index for fixed broadband speeds in the month of September.

India is now ranked below Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Nepal.

India has slipped two positions in the mobile internet speed department as compared to the previous month, with an average download speed of 12.07Mbps. In the fixed broadband speed category, India has gained two spots with average download speeds of 46.47Mbps.

According to the index, India's average mobile download speed is 12.07Mbps – much lower than the global average of 35.26Mbps. Out of 138 countries, India stands on the 131st spot on the Ookla's Speedtest Global Index for mobile internet. India's average mobile upload speed is at 4.31Mbps, significantly lower than the global average of 11.22Mbps.

South Korea topped the index, with an average mobile download speed of 121 Mbps. China is second on the index with an average mobile download speed of 113.35Mbps. Sri Lanka ranks way ahead of India at 102nd position. Pakistan and Nepal are ranked 116th and 117th positions, respectively. 

In the case of fixed-line broadband Internet speeds, India is positioned at 70th out of 175 nations, with an average download speed of 46.47Mbps. In this category, India ranks well above most of its neighbouring countries. China is at 20th spot with 138.66Mbps. Sri Lanka, Nepal and Pakistan are at 94th, 113th, and 159th spot respectively.
