MUMBAI: An Indian Airforce aircraft landed in Mumbai at around 3:30 PM on Thursday with the Indians rescued from Sudan. India is undertaking a massive evacuation project for the Indians stranded in the country because of the war.

According to the report, this craft airlifted 246 people from Jeddah in Saudi Arabia at around 11 AM Indian Standard Time and touched ground in India after about 4 and half hours. This evacuation is a part of the ongoing Operation Kaveri mounted by the Indian government to rescue the Indians in Sudan. Indian Airforce is taking an active part in the ongoing operation.

The strife for power and control has been going on in the African nation of Sudan over the last few days. The major fight is between the Sudanese Army and a paramilitary group. Thousands of people have lost their lives in this civil war and essential supplies are running low in the country.

Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra had mentioned that approximately 1,700 to 2,000 Indian people were moved out of the conflict zones and the number included the citizens already evacuated out of Sudan as well as those who are on their way to Port Sudan from the capital city of Khartoum. He also mentioned that the situation in the country remains very volatile and complex and it is important to evacuate all the stranded individuals in the country as soon as possible.

A previous report mentioned that around 3000-3500, Indians were in Sudan when the conflict started. A few of them were able to evacuate on their own before the Indian government stepped in.
