NEW DELHI: Every year on May 12, International Nurses Day is observed to commemorate the birth anniversary of British nurse and social reformer Florence Nightingale. Florence received the nickname "Lady with the Lamp" for her assistance with wounded troops during the Crimean War, which lasted from 1853 to 1856.
On August 13, 1910, she died at the age of 90.
The theme for 2023 International Nurses Day is Our Nurses. Our Future. The theme was announced on January 12, 2023.
We have been seeing how nurses all throughout the world have made significant contributions to the global healthcare system via their care and dedication. International Nurses Day is held to honor such nurses who work diligently and provide important services in healthcare facilities all around the world.
This day also highlights the importance of nursing as a profession and the issues nurses face in the healthcare system.
Despite knowing that they were placing themselves in danger of infection, nurses served as front-line workers in hospitals and communities during Covid-19. They risked their lives to save others, despite the fact that they were exposed to risks that put them at risk of illness. They played a critical role in containing the outbreak by providing necessary support.
