Italy: Huge Explosion in Milan, Massive Fire Engulfs Several Vehicles
NEW DELHI: On Thursday, a huge explosion occurred in Milan’s Porta Romana in northern Italy. A massive fire engulfed several vehicles and Vehicles carrying oxygen gas canisters were suspected as the cause of the explosion.
Till now there are no reports of death, however, four persons are said to be injured as per the fire brigade. According to another report, a vehicle exploded on Via Pier Lombardo, on the corner of Via Vasari, in the Porta Romana area of Milan, triggering explosions engulfing at least five vehicles.
The incident, which may have occurred due to a van, has already sparked an investigation by the local police. Over the wreckage, thick black smoke could be seen rising.
The fire consumed at least five vehicles and four motorcycles, scorching the street facades of apartments and a pharmacy.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze in the Porta Romana area of the city - which was immediately cordoned off by the local police.
In March 2023, a large fire occurred in a fuel storage depot in Indonesia’s capital that killed 17 people and injured several. Meanwhile, many residents have evacuated as the fire spread to the neighborhood. Similarly, in 2014, a fire engulfed at least 40 nearby houses, but no casualties were reported.
In 2018, in Balikpapan huge fire killed five people and injured hundreds and authorities said it came from a broken pipe that Pertamina was using to transfer crude oil.
In March 2021, a fire at the Cilacap gasoline storage facility at the largest oil refinery on the main island of Java injured at least 20 people and later 80 nearby residents evacuated. Whereas, Cilacap is one of six Pertamina refineries that process daily 270,000 barrels as per reports.
