Joe Biden to be Sworn in as 46th US President Today

NEW DELHI: President-elect Joe Biden is set to swear-in as the 46th President of the United States on January 20.

It is to be mentioned that Biden returned to Washington DC, four years after he left the Beltway for his hometown in Delaware.

Biden said, "I am honoured to be your next President and Commander in Chief. I will always be a proud son of the state of Delaware."

In a tweet, Biden posted a video boarding a private jet, captioned "Next stop: Washington, D.C."

Biden was accompanied by the incoming First Lady Jill Biden along with several grandchildren and family members, as well as son Hunter Biden who was holding his baby Beau. 

Meanwhile, the inauguration of 46th US President-elect Joe Biden is scheduled to take place around 10:00-10:30 PM (IST) today while the outgoing president, Donald Trump will likely spend his last day issuing a number of pardons and bidding farewell to the American public from the White House.

On the other that from the Biden camp, Indian-origin Kamala Harris is set to become the new Vice President of United States.

Notably, Harris will be the first-ever woman Vice President and also the first African American and India-origin person to occupy the second most powerful position in the US.

Biden said that 12 years ago Barack Obama, a Black man, greeted him at the train platform before he became his Vice President, and now he departs to "meet a Black woman of South Asian descent" to become President and Vice President.

The current First Lady Melania Trump bode farewell to the nation, asking every American to "always choose love over hatred, peace over violence, and others before yourself".

She made the remarks in a six and a half-minute video message posted on the White House website on Monday night.

Trump begins her message by saying that it had been "the greatest honour of my life to serve as First Lady of the United States".
