Journalists to celebrate New Year’s Eve at the Times Square

Guwahati: Journalists from the United States, in honour of their profession and to mark the freedom of the press, have decided to celebrate the New Year eve and will welcome the fresh year at the Times Square on Monday. What is more exciting is that the celebrations of the journalists will be witnessed by billions around the world.

The New Year’s Eve party in New York Times Square will be co-organized by Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment. The organizers informed that a group of eminent journalists representing a broad spectrum of news organisations will also be honoured as part of the celebrations to make the passing year and the arrival of the New Year even more memorable.

The moment which is to be seen by billions around the world will begin with 60-second countdown to the New Year. The invited journalists from around the world includes Global Opinions Editor at The Washington Post Karen Attiah, Deputy Managing Editor at The New York Times Rebecca Blumenstein, , TIME Editor-in-Chief Edward Felsenthal, Wall Street Journal Editor-in-Chief Matt Murray, CNN New Day Co-Anchor Alisyn Camerota, NBC Nightly News and Dateline NBC Anchor Lester Holt, Executive Director of the Independent and many others.

Speaking about the New Year celebration moment in Times Square, Tim Tompkins, the President of the Times Square Alliance, said, “We are honoured to have such a respected group of media entities and journalists join us to #CelebratePressFreedom as we ring in the New Year.”

Mr. Tompkins further added that this is one of the most fitting things to celebrate free press and free speech in one of the world’s most famous public squares and this reflects where they all have been during the past year.

Jeff Straus, the President of Countdown Entertainment said, “As the Ball drops, the Special Guests will lead the 60-second countdown to 2019 joined by millions of revellers with a message of unity and harmony for the New Year. We thank the news organisations and the journalists for helping us celebrate journalism and press freedom around the world.”
