New York: The man who was accused in the horrendous shooting incident that occurred in a subway station in Brooklyn in New York has been arrested.

The accused has been identified as Frank R James, a 62-year-old man who opened fire indiscriminately at a Brooklyn subway station, thereby injuring at least 10 people on April 12.

Manhattan police had taken him into their custody and he will be produced before the court on the morning of April 14 (US time).

A federal court had charged Frank R James for violating a law that prohibits terrorist and other violent attacks.

"As alleged, the defendant committed a heinous and premeditated attack on ordinary New Yorkers during their morning subway commute," Breon Peace, US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York said.

Meanwhile, the police said that the accused activated a smoke grenade inside a subway car which was very crowded, and thereafter the gunman fired at least 33 shots with a 9 mm handgun.

10 people had fallen prey to this lunatic act with 5 of them said to be in a critical state but, it is expected that they would somehow manage to survive.

Also, at least 12 people escaped gunshot wounds and they are undergoing treatment for smoke inhalation and other injuries.
