Moscow Announces Temporary Ceasefire In 2 Ukraine Cities On Humanitarian Ground

MOSCOW: Russia's state-controlled media claimed that the country's Defense Ministry has announced a temporary ceasefire in two cities of Ukraine to allow civilians to leave safely.

Notably, the cities are Mariupol and Volnovakha. Further, as per reports, the ceasefire will begin at 10 AM Moscow time (2 AM ET).

Notably, Mariupol and Volnovakha have borne the brunt of some of the most intense fighting in Ukraine over recent days.

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed that exit routes had been agreed upon with Ukraine, but Ukrainian Interior Ministry advisor Anton Geraschenko posted on Telegram that there was "no official news on this."

Russian troops have continued a broad offensive in Ukraine, Russia's RIA news agency quoted the Russian defence ministry as saying.

The ministry confirmed its units have stopped firing and opened humanitarian corridors near the cities of Volnovakha and Mariupol which were encircled by Russian troops.

On the other hand, SpaceX chief Elon Musk has said that its Starlink satellite broadband service has been told by some governments, not Ukraine, to block Russian news sources.

"We will not do so unless at 'gunpoint', sorry to be a free speech absolutist", he said in a tweet.

Earlier this week, the SpaceX chief warned there is a high chance that its Starlink could be "targeted" in Ukraine.
