LONDON: In Britain's most important ceremonial occasion, King Charles was crowned as King on Saturday, the first coronation in 70 years. The tradition began with a reading of the Bible. In contrast, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak spoke at the coronation ceremony and read from the biblical book of Colossians.

Following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in September, King Charles III's royal coronation was confirmed. King Charles and Camilla arrived at the Abbey on the Diamond Jubilee State Couch, escorted by the King's security. Following King Chrales' coronation, his wife is elevated to the status of 'Queen' from Queen Consort. Queen Camilla will be crowned with Queen Mary's Crown from the 1911 coronation at the ceremony.

King Charles, who had waited over 70 years to be crowned, stepped from his car wearing a blue suit.

King Charles has been given the St Edward's Crown, a solid gold, sacred symbol of the monarch's authority that is only worn once throughout a monarch's reign.

According to sources, after the ceremony, the royal couple will return to Buckingham Palace with other British Royals and address the public from the balcony, as is customary.

King Charles III, on the other hand, gets crowned in London, around 100 years after his great grandfather, King George V, who was the only British king to travel to India to attend his coronation Durbar in Delhi.

Vice-President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar, who formally represented India, is also present at the ceremony. Sonam Kapoor, a Bollywood actress, was also invited to King Charles' Coronation ceremony in London.

Meanwhile, according to sources, two Mumbai dabbawalas would also represent their fraternity at the coronation ceremony.
